Prepare for the SAG Diploma:
Develop Your Skills Further

Three Part Online Course

This three-week ‘bootcamp’ can be the boost you need as you face a 20,000-word thesis. It helps you build the confidence and more advanced skills you will need to undertake a rigorous academic course, whenever you decide to take that step.

As you work through the three-week course, you will develop a deeper knowledge of how to structure your thesis, develop and sustain an argument, and reference to a specific style guide.

Think of the course as a research plan for your own thesis: similar, but more detailed, than the research plan you prepared in the Certificate assignment!

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
    • how to develop a synopsis that outlines your key focus and research question(s);
    • an understanding of the importance of your first chapter;
    • the key features that the thesis must contain based on the rubric;
    • ways of presenting data;
    • the details of the diploma referencing style;
    • tips to sustain you for the 18/20 month writing period

    Dr. Yvonne Masters has a background in education, both as a teacher, particularly of English and History, and as a university lecturer in teacher education. She has been researching her own and her husband’s family histories for over 40 years and, now retired, genealogy is her passion, making her question how she ever found time to work! Yvonne has completed the UTAS Diploma of Family History, and both SAG’s Certificate of Genealogical Research and the Diploma of Family Historical Studies. She is a member of the Diploma and Certificate Committee and assists with both courses. Yvonne also assists in presenting courses on starting family history and research skills for family history for Genealogy SA.
