The Society was formed in 1932 and is the oldest family history society in Australia delivering education, helping people find their family and share their stories. The SAG is an organisation that welcomes enthusiastic amateurs alongside professional genealogists, sharing a passion for family history. We are incorporated under Australia’s Corporations Law as a non-profit company, limited by guarantee. Our income is tax exempt and donations over $2 to our Collections Fund are tax deductible. Our ABN is 45 029 698 871 and our ACN is 000 049 678. Our New South Wales Charitable Fundraising number is CFN/26276. Our principal object is the advancement of education in history and family history in particular, and this is reflected in our education program and collections. The SAG is managed by a small staff under the direction of a Board of Directors, and we could not open our doors without a dedicated team of volunteers. The Society of Australian Genealogists acknowledges and pays respect to the past, present and emerging Traditional Custodians of the land in which we operate, live, and gather. |

Governance The most recent Constitution of the Society of Australian Genealogists was adopted on 2 April 2025 (we hold a signed copy made by the President on this date). Current by-laws of the Society are also available.
