Need help with your family history research or want to learn a new subject area?

It doesn't matter if you are just starting out or you are an experienced researcher, our activities program is sure to have something of interest. Most weeks we have at least one 2-hour lecture on an  Australian or overseas research topic. Plus there's a range of groups which meet regularly so researchers can help each other with a specific area of interest or a software program. And of course we cater for DNA too, with three different groups meeting to discuss this ever-changing subject. They're pitched at beginner, intermediate and advanced level, so you should never feel out of your depth.

Of course it's not just about the presentation. Attending a lecture or group meeting gives you the chance to talk to other members and visitors with similar research interests; sometimes it's the tips you pick up over a cup of tea or coffee during the break and the new friends you make that are the highlight.

Some sessions are 'hands on' and limited to a small number of participants, so you can learn how to utilise a specific website or improve your online skills in a friendly environment . If you are a member, you can come to free tours of the Library and Archives collections so you can see first-hand what we hold and how you can access the materials.

Sydney offers some wonderful days out, so you can join in a tour to an historic site, a repository such as State Archives at Kingswood, or be guided through an historic cemetery by an expert.

Add to the above our popular webinar program, where we bring right to your own computer or mobile device presentations by experts from around the world, and there's really no excuse for not participating!

Every new member gets a complimentary ticket to a lecture, a group meeting or a webinar of their choice in their first three months of membership too - a great way to experience first-hand how useful our activities can be.

While non-members are welcome to attend most of our events, our members are rewarded with a discount rate for the majority of our activities.
