Not all DNA results follow neat textbook patterns. Some match lists contain unusual clues, such as one large overlapping cluster, inflated shared DNA amounts, unexpected relationship predictions, or signs of endogamy and pedigree collapse.

In this session, Donna Rutherford explores the “red flags” that can indicate more complex ancestry patterns, explains why they occur, and discusses practical strategies for working through difficult DNA situations sensitively and effectively.

About the Presenter

Donna Rutherford is a London-based genetic genealogist originally from New Zealand. She specialises in helping genealogists use DNA to solve family history questions and regularly presents talks and courses on genetic genealogy, DNA analysis, and emerging research tools. Donna is known for her practical, accessible teaching style and her ability to make complex DNA concepts understandable for genealogists of all levels.
