6-Part Webinar Series

This series of six webinars will demonstrate what the New South Wales HLRV (Historical Land Records Viewer) can provide to researchers of family history.

Each session will detail a small part of what is available on the HLRV and how you can learn more about your family’s land ownership in New South Wales.

Each webinar will be presented via Zoom on Tuesday evenings commencing on (22 July 2026) from 7.30pm.

The webinars will cover the following topics:

  • Wednesday 22 July 2026 - History of Land Records plus Parish/Town Maps
  • Wednesday 29 July 2026 – Old System Records
  • Wednesday 5 August 2026 – Torrens Title Records
  • Wednesday 12 August 2026 - MID SERIES BREAK
  • Wednesday 19 August 2026 – Primary Applications
  • Wednesday 26 August 2026 – Conditional Purchases
  • Wednesday 2 September 2026 – Crown Plans and Deposited Plans

About the Presenter:

Jeff Madsen has had a long career in Information Technology using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software to prepare maps for Government, private enterprise and family researchers.

He has used the Historical Land Records Viewer (HLRV) since 1999 to access digitised Parish Maps and, more recently, to research NSW Historical Land Records for property owned by ancestors.

It became evident that this Spatial knowledge could be used in genealogical research. Using maps and investigating areas of historical geography would enhance family stories by finding information beyond names and dates.
