Topic: The Family Business

Two characteristics of shops owned and operated by Chinese in Australia were the use of partnerships in their formation and often the development of regional networks of stores linked by family and clan connections.

Richard Horsburgh will discuss the working lives of five brothers of the Wong clan from Jung Seng (Zengcheng) County in Guangdong Province who worked in general stores in the central west of New South Wales over 50 years from the 1880s to the 1930s. Family bonds were at the heart of their retail enterprises as each brother supported the others for the benefit of all of them.

Come along and join us as we research our Chinese Australian ancestors in a collaborative, friendly and engaging research group. Make sure you have your questions ready and also be ready to assist others if you are able to as this is the basis of what all SAG Groups are about - people helping other people with ideas and suggestions about their family research.

Skill level:  All - Beginners welcome
