Wellington Research Essentials: Archives, Collections and Beyond

Are you planning to attend the 2027 Congress in Wellington, or hoping to make the most of your research time at Archives New Zealand? This session will help you prepare for your visit and make the most of the wealth of historical records and research resources available in New Zealand’s capital.

Our guest speaker, Jonathan Newport, Research Specialist at Archives New Zealand / National Library of New Zealand, will provide an introduction to the collections held at Archives New Zealand and offer practical guidance on locating and accessing records. Topics will include using the Collections Search system, planning a research visit, and requesting and viewing archival records.

The session will also highlight other repositories and resources relevant to Wellington-based research, alongside local insights and suggestions for places to visit and things to see while exploring New Zealand’s capital.
