Digital Skills for Family History

Intensive One-Day Workshop

Venue: SAG Family History Research Centre & Library (Level 2, 379 Kent Street, Sydney)

Are you looking to develop your technology skills for family history but prefer to learn in a single, immersive day?

This full-day intensive version of our popular three-part course brings together all the essential topics into one hands-on learning experience.

Across the day, you'll explore how to:

  • Set Up Your Computer for Research: Organise your digital workspace for efficient and effective genealogical research.

  • Access Key Repositories and Record Sets: Discover where to find vital records and how to access them online and remotely.

  • Search Indexes Effectively: Learn strategies to navigate indexes and databases to uncover hidden details of your ancestors’ lives.

  • Use a Variety of Software Tools: Build your skills with common programs and online tools to manage and analyse your research.

Using a case-study approach, this workshop demonstrates practical skills in real time, allowing you to follow along, experiment, and apply what you learn immediately. Our expert instructor will provide step-by-step guidance, with opportunities for questions and individual support throughout the day.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have a solid foundation in the key digital skills needed to research, organise, and preserve your family history with confidence. This course is ideal for those starting their research or anyone feeling overwhelmed by the digital side of genealogy.
