This month we have three presenters who have worked with convict records in various ways. This event will hopefully show how family history is part of a wider, public history of Australia and show the different ways these sources can be used to tell stories of ordinary Australians.

Speaker One: Dr. Janet McCalman, an Emeritus Redmond Barry Professor at the University of Melbourne. Dr. McCalman recently published Vandemonians: The Repressed History of Colonial Victoria, an engrossing tale of Tasmanian convicts in colonial Victoria.

Speaker Two: Ros Escott, researcher and volunteer from Female Convicts. Female Convicts is an non-profit, volunteer run organization that encourages research "into the lives and experiences of convict women and their children in Van Diemen’s Land; into the Female Factories through which they passed; and into the staff of the Factories who looked after them and the settlers for whom they worked."

Speaker Three: Eleanor Lambert, Assistant Curator at Fremantle Prison. Eleanor has most recently worked with convict records and artefacts for the exhibition at Fremantle Prison entitled "Transportation." Fremantle Prison is a World Heritage Site, and one of the 11 historic sites that together form the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property.

The "Let's Talk About..." series is a free members only event that will be held on the last Monday of every month. Audience participation will be a focus of these events, so please bring your questions!

Each month will feature a different topic and the presenters will vary.

Do you have a question you are desperate to have answered? Why not submit it in advance. Click on the link to send us your question now https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SAG-Talk-about-question

NOTE: We will try to answer all advance questions that are submitted, however, at times the volume of questions received means this is not possible.
