This session will be the first of a series of workshops providing face-to-face experience of talking about and reviewing evidence available for Scottish research. Through this hands-on workshop you will not only learn where to look for evidence but gain a better understanding of the quality of evidence once you find it! The aim is to work will real documents not just general theories.

Following an opening presentation and discussion, the morning will involve the participants working in small groups to consider a specific piece of evidence – its information and risks. This will be an opportunity for experienced researchers to help the less experienced in the group. The meeting will finish with groups reporting back on their findings and discussion.

Leader: Bruce McLennan FRSA. Coordinator of Clan MacLennan Worldwide Genealogy and the video series Finding your Scottish Ancestors (https://clanmaclennan-worldwide.com/genealogy/fysa )

For both experienced and inexperienced researchers
