We offer a digitising service to assist SAG members to make digital copies of their family history documents and photographs.
We will discuss your needs with you to determine the most suitable format and resolution, digitise them and provide you with copies on a USB stick or in Dropbox where you can download them via the internet from your home computer. We do not retain copies of your items.
How to book
The service is by prior appointment only. Each appointment is for 30 minutes and you can purchase up to three appointments in one day. The service is provided on Saturdays at Richmond Villa, 120 Kent Street Sydney.
Enquire about an appointment by telephoning us on (02) 9247 3953 Monday to Saturday, between 10am and 4pm. Your appointment will then be confirmed via email.
The fee is $25 for each 30 minute appointment, payable at the time of booking. If you require a USB stick from us, that is an additional cost.
If you must cancel a booking, a refund will only be made if the cancellation is made at least 48 hours in advance.
This is a ‘while you wait’ service. We do not accept materials dropped off for digitising and collection at a later date.
What we can digitise:
- Size: up to A3 size
- Type: Photographs and paper, negatives and slides
We may also be able to scan small objects which are relatively flat, such as medals and embroidery. If you have these types of objects you should discuss it with us prior to making your appointment.
We generally cannot digitise maps and charts larger than A3, family trees, framed paintings or bulky objects. (If you have items larger than A3 that you would like digitised please contact us to discuss this)
While we make every effort to provide you with a good quality digital copy and can usually enhance the image, we make no guarantees as it depends on the quality of the document or photograph you provide.
The number of items that can be digitised in a 30 minute period will vary depending on the quality of each item and the resolution of image you require. As a rough estimate you could expect to digitise:
- about 10 photographs (as some enhancement may be required to the tone or clarity)
- about 20 A4 document pages (if no enhancement is required).
