    Explore the history and families of the Penrith region with a lecture and a tour of the wonderful collections of the Penrith local studies library.

    Garden Island Tour

    Location: Sydney Harbour (information about getting there will be emailed) with the Naval Historical Society of New South Wales  

    Bookings essential: $30 members, $35 non-members  (max. 15 people)

    Join a guided tour of areas of Garden Island which are not open to the public, including the Chapel, the top of the Captain Cook Dock and the Kuttabul Memorial. You can stay on and visit the Heritage Centre afterwards.

    Not suitable for people with mobility issues. There is a lot of walking involved and some stairs. Tour goes ahead regardless of the weather. Further details will be provided by email.

    Enjoy a walk through this magnificent cemetery, visiting monuments of politicians, murder victims, authors, poets and criminals; including Dorothea Mackellar and Henry Lawson, Sir Francis Forbes, the magnificent Irish Monument to the 1789 rebellion and Nosey Bob, the State’s executioner!

    Not suitable for people with mobility issues.

    Research trip to the NSW State Archives

    Location: Kingswood

    Bookings essential: $25 members only  [bookings close 4pm 10 October or when full]

    Please note price has been reduced from the printed program. Limit is 10 people plus a waiting list of another 10. If we get sufficient interest we will utilise the waiting list and hire a bigger bus.

    Join a bus trip to State Archives’ Western Sydney Records Centre at Kingswood. Do some research in the reading room and bring your walking shoes if you wish to participate in an optional behind the scenes tour of the facility. The tour takes approximately one hour and involves stairs. BYO lunch. You need a reader’s ticket and should pre-order up to four records one week ahead of the visit. * NB Price includes bus transport to & from the archives. Pick up/drop off from Richmond Villa 120 Kent Street or Strathfield train station.

    Hear stories of the people, the places, and the buildings of Circular Quay and The Rocks. This is a walking tour and is not suitable for the less mobile. Wear suitable clothing and bring a hat. Limit 15.
